La Granja & Valsaín

La Querencia is located in one of the most beautiful natural areas of Spain, the Mountains of Valsaín. It is conveniently located close to important international cultural and tourist centers as the Royal Site of San Ildefonso (3 km / 5 min), Segovia, UNESCO Heritage City (15 km, 15 min) and Madrid (75 km, 1 h).

The Royal Site of San Ildefonso is located in the province of Segovia and it comprises the villages of La Granja and Valsaín. Due to its privileged natural environment, at the feet of the mountains of Sierra de Guadarrama, the place was the favourite summer residence of the Spanish Royal Family and several noble families during the fifteenth century onwards

The Royal Palace of Philip V (17th c) and its gardens with its 26 monumental fountains, all with fantastic water games and mythological characters and stories, stands out for its beauty. The Royal Glass Factory (factory of major historic relevance), which now houses the National Museum of Glass is also a precious site to visit. The ruins of the Palace of Valsaín, also known as “The Forest House” was the residence of kings and emperors until the 17th century, and they are an invaluable witness of Valsaín’s rich cultural past.

Valsaín and La Granja are the starting point for many hiking routes. They are without doubt, the best option to enjoy the stunning landscapes offered by pine forests and peaks of the Sierra de Guadarrama, an area recently integrated into the European network Natura 2000 and a near by future National Park.
